QUARSHIE WORKS OUT FOR NY GIANTS
by Sean Leahy

Michael Quarshie was one of 10 players who participated in private workout for the New York Giants Friday in preparation for the this month's NFL Draft.

Quarshie, a defensive lineman from Columbia University, was one of only two defensive linemen worked out by the team at Giants Stadium.  The players ran through physical drills testing their athleticism and agility.

“I think I surprised them with my ability to move and change direction,” said Quarshie, who improved his performance on the short shuttle agility drill to 4.65 seconds.  “Overall it was a very positive workout.”

The former Columbia captain said the Giants’ coaches instructed the players on various drills during the workout in trying to evaluate their attentiveness and ability to follow instructions.

The coaching he had received during his college career helped when Quarshie slipped in one of the drills while changing direction,  “I had to finish the drill because I know that [determination] is what they’re looking for,” he said.  “The thing they don’t want you to do is stop.”

“[Columbia coach Bob] Shoop and all my other coaches have always said ‘if you make a mistake, make it going 100 miles per hour.’  The play isn’t going to stop if you make that mistake in a game.”
