QUARSHIE WORKS OUT FOR NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
by Sean Leahy

Michael Quarshie participated in a private workout for the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Wednesday.

Patriots tight ends coach Pete Mangurian tested Quarshie on a range of both physical and mental topics during the event at Baker Field.

Quarshie performed physical drills testing his mobility, his reactions and his block destruction skills.  “He wanted to see how well I moved and how well I shed blockers,” the defensive lineman said.

Yet the Patriots coach also spent time drilling Quarshie about strategy and trying to determine the former Columbia player’s level of football knowledge. He watched tape with Quarshie for 45 minutes and asked him to evaluate his examples of his game performance, identify offensive formations, explain the certain defensive schemes and adjustments and walk him through his decision making process.

“My agility was really good,” he said.  “I think I impressed him by how well I can move with my size.  With the Patriots, it’s a big deal.  Versatility is important to them.  They want players who are humble and who are willing to accept the roles they ask them to play.”
