February 26, 2005 QUARSHIE PARTICIPATES IN NFL EUROPE COMBINE Michael Quarshie was one of six players who participated in a workout camp for the NFL’s International Player Development Program in Tampa, Fla. from Feb. 23-25.
Coaches from NFL Europe teams tested the players in a variety of physical drills designed to check their athleticism and football readiness. The camp coincided with workouts for current members of NFL Europe rosters. “The atmosphere was really great,” said Quarshie. “Everyone was really excited about the opportunity to be there.” Quarshie, who graduated from Columbia University in December and has been working out for NFL teams recently in expectation of the NFL Draft on April 23, said the camp gave him a sense of the physical rigors of the NFL. “One of the things I took away was the experience of testing,” he said. “I got a sense of how the Pro Day [workout camps] would go.” The NFL International Player Development Program was a pilot program last year under which four teams could sign internationally-born players to bonus roster spots. NFL officials are considering expanding the program to more teams for the 2005 season.
